Little Miami high school athletes recently spent time helping second graders gain an appreciation for a good story as they were guest readers in elementary classrooms as part of a literacy initiative from the 2nd & 7 Foundation.

2nd & 7 is a non-profit organization based in Columbus, founded by three former Ohio State University football players, Luke Fickell, Ryan Miller and Mike Vrabel. The mission of Foundation is to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward.

Panther athletes like senior quarterback Brody Reder and senior soccer player Joseph Chacon visited second grade classrooms at Hamilton-Maineville and Harlan-Butlerville Primary Schools to read from books provided by the Foundation. After the students listened to the athletes read, each youngster was given their own copy of the book.

The athletes who read are part of the LMHS Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) that focuses on building character and leadership in Panther athletes.
