In the two short years since the Little Miami men’s tennis team was resurrected in 2016, the program has already seen strong performances.

The Panthers have produced five all-Southwest Ohio Conference honorees, including returning seniors Chase Williams, Brett Lempner and sophomore Matt Lockman. But according to Head Coach Lorie Boulton, not just these three are players to watch -- it’s the entire team.

“Returning starters include Ben Hardesty, Lempner, Lockman, Dake Raybon and Williams,” she said. “And new players include Jason Brown, Corrim Coffman and TJ Meyer.”

Williams, who was first team all-conference in doubles in both 2016 and 2017, will make the jump to singles this season. Lockman will stay with singles after winning first team all-conference honors in second singles as a freshman in 2017 and winning the second singles SWOC tournament championship. Hardesty, Raybon, Coffman, Brown and Meyer will be playing doubles.

The Panthers will be setting their sights on improving on their third place tie last season with conference rivals Harrison and Northwest, Boulton said.

“[We want] to place first or second in the league and to move up two divisions in the Coaches Classic Tournament,” she said. “Every team on our league will be challenging to play. Each team has knowledgeable coaches and a core group of competitive players committed to playing tennis during the offseason.”

Boulton is in her 20th year of coaching at Little Miami and is taking over head coaching duties from Mark LaPille, who stepped down this season due to health reasons. Boulton was named Coach of the Year in 2008 and was a four-year varsity player herself at Wright State University.

My expectation is that all players on the team will contribute to a successful 2018 season,” she said. “Although tennis is often considered an individual sport, each individual performance contributes to the overall team win.”
