Men's soccer shooting for title, top 20 ranking

Losing one game to a Southwest Ohio Conference rival – just one – can do everything to derail a drive for a league championship.

Ask Little Miami men’s head soccer coach Kyle Smiddy. He knows that 3-0 loss to Talawanda last September put the title out of reach for the Panthers, despite being their only SWOC loss. The Braves went on to a perfect 6-0 in the conference and that is something Smiddy and his squad are aiming to prevent this year.

After first-team all-SWOC players Brody Kiper and Ryan Mills graduated in May, Smiddy, who is in his seventh year of coaching at Little Miami, knew he could count on the next group of rising seniors to help ignite this year’s drive for a title and a top 20 ranking in the city.

“We have a fantastic group of highly skilled seniors this year, led by three third-year varsity veterans Zach Day, Aiden McReynolds and Gerrin Hoffman,” he said. Hoffman was named second team, all conference last year, along with second-year varsity juniors Andrew Oder and Joseph Chacon. Add in second-year varsity junior Aiden Butler and Coach Smiddy feels he has what it takes to reach his team’s goal of reclaiming that SWOC title from 2015-16.

“Men's soccer is alive and well at Little Miami,” he said. “From our seniors down to our incoming freshman we have a highly skilled and competitive program. We are extremely excited to see these young men hit the pitch this season.”
