After defeating West Carrollton in a lopsided 42-0 victory in Week 1, the Little Miami Panthers achieved their first goal of the season and lived up to the team hashtag #1-0.

Now, Head Coach Nate Mahon said his team, which went 3-7 last year, is ready to get on with the business of creating a winning season, the first for the Panthers in recent memory. They will get there by building on the hard work they put in over the months leading up to the first kick-off, he said.

“The players have really bought into the off-season,” Mahon said. “Our goal since December has been to buy into strength and conditioning and our off-season program. They are ready to put a product on the field that represents their hard work and dedication. They are all in.”

The Panthers will face a handful of tough Southwest Ohio Conference opponents, including defending champ Edgewood and perennial powerhouse Mount Healthy.

Mahon, in his second year at Little Miami, will call on 14 returning starters to get the job done, including all-conference running back Lucas Patten, who led the SWOC in rushing yardage last year. Also key in providing leadership will be captains Austin Montag (OL), Jake Shirey (WR), Grant Frith (LB) and Chase Eshleman (DE). And senior punter/kicker Chad Mirolo, who was three-for-three in critical field goals last year, will give Mahon more options on the field.

“They have worked hard to get to where they are today; and that is putting themselves in a position to have a winning season, compete for the SWOC title and for a Division 2 playoff spot,” Mahon said. “The coaching staff and the players believe in each other. They love being Little Miami Football players and they are invested in the betterment of their own football program.”
