Little Miami head women’s basketball coach Matt Tolliver isn’t a chemistry teacher, but he believes he has a winning formula for the 2017-18 season.

With an aggressive preseason training regimen and a core group of experienced players, Tolliver has set his sights on a Southwest Ohio Conference Championship for the Lady Panthers.

“We have a good solid team and are an exciting team to watch,” he said. “We want to take back that SWOC title and hope everyone will come watch our girls this year.”

Tolliver is in his seventh year as head coach and was named SWOC Coach of the year in 2014.

Q. What are your goals for this season?
A. We want to get better every day and ultimately win the SWOC and win multiple games in the sectional tournament

Q. Who will be your toughest opponents and why?
A. Edgewood in our league.  They are the defending league champs and bring back a lot of players.  Outside the league - Ursuline, Kings, Loveland, Turpin, Franklin, Goshen and St Ursula should all be tough games.

Q. Who are you looking to this year to be a leader/leaders for your squad and why?
A. Our three captains are Mariah Clemons, Kaitlyn Simpkins, and Michkayla Goins. They are three wonderful kids who lead on and off the court. They are all three year varsity players, so they know what to expect and know what we want out of them. They are great role models for our young kids and those kids look up to these three.

Q. Who are some players to watch?
A. Juniors Kaitlyn Simpkins and Sydney Kuritar were our leading scorers last year and both broke the school record for three pointers in a season. Senior Mariah Clemons is the glue that holds our team together. She does anything and everything for our team and is our best defender. Karrah Wind led our team in block shots and rebounding last year and will return in the post.
