Scroll through the past women’s golf standings for the Southwest Ohio Conference, and one begins to realize a theme: While perennially tough teams like Edgewood and Harrison swap for the top spot each year, the Little Miami Panthers are always in the hunt.

New head coach Chris Lynch entered this season with modest expectations to stay the course, improve and to make the year fun. But as Lynch discovered, the season may be more fun than he realized after senior Alex Gomez joined the team.

Gomez is currently ranked in the top 25 female golfers in Cincinnati and won the second flight of the Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship at Terrace Park Country Club this summer. She is already putting up great numbers in early matches, and has helped the team get off to a 3-1 start this season.

But Gomez isn’t the only reason the Lady Panthers will do well. Lynch said he is also counting on experienced seniors Abby Titzer and Mati Cummins to help lead his team.

Lynch has been a multi-sport coach for Little Miami, including girls basketball, shot and discus, JV boys golf and junior high boys basketball.
